Gray Hair is not Necessary Though!

Posted in consulting by Francisco Marco-Serrano @ Apr 27, 2008

I have read quite a few texts on how to become a consultant in the late years, and some would recommend you need the following (right-hand side on the equations is mine):

do

   +Expertise == sKillz U lIf3

   +Knowledge == real training NOR resume | (curiosity OR insight) € brain3

   +Self-motivation == guts + balls <-> willing to HARD WORK ¥ client/project

   +People Skills == ß("Emotional Leadership")

loop while wanting to be a consultant

So, where’s the need for "gray hair"? (trust me, some articles use it as a metaphor for the equation). Don’t matter!: At my thirty-odd age I have some of my own already!!!… and the rest.

From now on I’ll try not to blog on the first think that comes to my mind. And, as the guys from wikiHow say, I won’t unless it is…

Effective (and as a economist I would add Efficient)

Necessary (and could we be adding Needed?)

Accurate (I can’t help it, so probably if it was me, it’d be Arrogant)

Timely (if it’s JIT, better)

Appropriate (refer to the first A if you’re me)

Of course, I’ll start first thing tomorrow morning. At the moment I just broke a couple of ENATA rules.

This is about a theme I always want to write about but never find time to dedicate to as I want to reason it wisely to avoid missunterpretations. So, as a previous disclaimer: I AM NOT A NEO-LUDDITE.

At the moment I’ll use this post as an ideas compilation, in order to gather more and more info for writting a proper text (if you’d like to add up…, just add up in the comments, you’re welcome to do so).

* Thesis: Human Beings are not ready for long distance shots of technological advances. Step by step, incremental well-dosed and callibrated innovations are better suited for its adoption.

* Facts to be analysed: increasing number of people suffering mental illnesses is related to increase in life-expectancy or is a matter of technological advance.

* Data:
